Kaua'i is the site of the first recorded contact between Westerners and the native inhabitants of Hawai'i (English Captain James Cook came ashore at Waimea Bay in 1778).
Also known as Pali Ke Kua, Hideaways Beach is a smaller secluded
beach beneath the cliffs at Princeville. Getting to this beach requires a short hike on a sometimes slippery (and muddy)descending path,
so don't wear your best shoes on this jaunt -- but the effort is worth it. The beach is one of the less crowded beaches on
Kaua'i, and it's a great spot to bring a picnic lunch. Behind the beach against the cliffs are huge kamani trees, whose thick green
canopies provide a cool sheltering from the afternoon sun.
When the seas are not showing off and the water is calm,
the reefs off Hideaways are a great spot for snorkeling.
